First week

I'll willingly admit that school isn't my favorite thing or anything crazy like that. Honestly, though? I found myself actually strangely interested during bio 102 today, which was odd for me. Let me just tell you right now, since I was a kid, I've not liked science. I don't ask questions like, "Why does that cloud do that?" or "Why do I get sick?" No. I'm not one of those people (hats off to those of you who are). In all actuality, I made it through algebra like it was nothing because I didn't ask questions. I don't need to know why you do stuff generally; I just do it. Yet, for some strange reason, bio 102 isn't boring the crap out of me like 101 (maybe because it's stuff you can see like animals and plants instead of cells).
Of course, with a biology class comes a biology lab, which is probably the reason I've never liked it. I don't experiment with lame questions. Just not my thing (sorry science nerds). In lab this week, we did read about all the dolphins dying off our VA coast this summer though, which was somewhat interesting until this girl asked why we were trying to save them. I'm sure my face was hilarious when she asked that. Umn, we're trying to save them because they're adorable? What else? Take your dolphin hatred somewhere else. Sorry, random rant right there.
Theater is interesting to say the least. No, I wasn't particularly interested in theater and that's not why I'm taking it. The school I'm transferring to has a big theater program and they like you to have taken that as an elective for some reason. So, here I am. So far it's just the overarching question of, "What is theater?" But at some point I have to go see a play, musical, or opera over the semester and write about it.
I'm taking the mandatory ITE class, which is just Microsoft 2010 and knowing how to use all the programs. The class isn't worth much, but is required to graduate. I've heard it's kind of a joke, but I'm taking it online. You know, you never really get a feel for a class until the second or third week because the first week, even in online classes, is all introduction and syllabus stuff.
My final semester of foreign language before I can forget it all (just kidding, kind of). I'm taking Spanish 4 online. Everybody is saying I'm a brave soul, but I took Spanish 2 online and you can always meet with the instructor (I know her, and she'll help me over the phone if I need it too). The only thing that was mildly scary? I opened up the book last night and the whole danged thing is written in Spanish. They couldn't even bless me with an English table of contents for goodness sakes!!! Still getting used to that. I mean, my other book gave the directions in Spanish towards the end (think Spanish 3), but English directions and stuff for some things make me feel safer if you know what I mean.
Last, but not least, I've got overview of Western Culture. Okay, crazy alert, but I've taken this professor all four semesters I've been in school (both histories and both electives) and I love her. She's super interesting. She's lived everywhere or been everywhere. Plus, her class never requires a textbook and it's just 3 tests and 3 five-hundred word essays, which is something I can easily deal with.
Sure, it's only the first week, but I'm liking the fact that over half of my classes are online and I only have to come to campus 3 days a week. My opinion may change on bio in a couple weeks, but, honestly, I like to think I'm blessed just to go to school and to almost be done with my associate's degree, because I am. Almost 18 and almost have a degree, not everyone can say that and I'm praying it gives me an advantage in the job market in upcoming years, just being able to have a better job at a younger age would suffice for me. I hope everybody else's first week back is going well! And, if you aren't in school, umn, I hope you're having fun? I don't know.

College Again

I know, it's been forever. My fall semester was jam-packed. It was my first semester working and going to school, not to mention I left my least favorite subject (science) for my last two semesters. School has started once again, whether I was ready or not, it's time to get back into the groove of things.

I'm glad to be back. I've never really been one to make New Year's resolutions, but I have been trying to be a lot more purposeful and creative with my spare time (blogging for instance). Honestly, I love writing, I just always seem to run out of material when I blog. However, I'm planning posts ahead and will be attempting to post at least once a week. Plus, I will be featuring the occasional guest post (even have the first one lined up and ready).
